In Bumper to Bumper, automotive writer and YouTuber Doug DeMuro follows up on the success of his first book, Plays With Cars – which was wildly popular, especially with Doug’s mother, who bought 47 copies. Bumper to Bumper is newer, longer, and better, touting mostly original stories that include the time Doug crashed his brand-new Porsche company car into a tree, the real story behind the time Doug crushed a Chrysler PT Cruiser, the time Doug bribed a government official in South Africa, the time Doug got detained at the Canadian border on an automotive press trip, and the story of Doug’s relationship with automakers. Also, Doug wrote this description himself in the third person.

I've only had this book for a day, but factoring in depreciation it's already worth more than a 2011 Nissan Leaf.

Bumper to Bumper Doug DeMuro eBook Reviews

I'm a big fan of DeMuro's. I've been reading his stuff on Jalopnik for years and have always been entertained by it. I haven't read his other books, but he offered this one up so cheap I felt I owed they guy at least a little something for all those other entertaining articles I got for free on the web.
I'm glad I didn't spend too much though, as I was done with this book in a couple of hours. Half of it is just reprints of his more popular Jalopnik columns. Then a few of the stories are little fun, anecdotal tales of what went on behind those more popular already published stories. So that leaves very little actual new, hearty content which was a little disappointing.
Overall Doug's an entertaining enough of a writer that's it's still worth the few bucks, especially if you're new to the DeMuro debacle.
Beyond the fact that 'Doug DeMuro' (Anagram Doomed Guru) is clearly a pen name for Dave Barry, since their writing style and taste in music are all but indistinguishable, Doug/Dave's book is good stuff. I particularly enjoyed the greyscale photos available in the version, and the mysterious comments from the 'editor' scattered throughout.

The stories of buying and selling cars hit home, as does the morbid fascination with the Carfax app and all the secrets it reveals. But the best part, IMHO, is the the fact that we are finally given insight into what the PR machines for Doug/Dave's fleet really think. I would have thought that juicing interest in the Aston Martin among younger enthusiasts could only do good things, yet clearly there was some sensitivity. If you're considering a 'bargain-price' used Vantage, are you really going to be put off by pictures of it on a flatbed? Or are you going to reap benefits from the nascent group of gearheads moving beyond BMWs and whatnot into something with a bit more personality?

Keep it up Doug/Dave, I think 'Bumper to Bumper' would also make a great name for a band.
Bought the book... Passed on the warranty... I may regret that later.
Finally we get more Doug! I read his first book and couldn't wait for the second. Doug has a good way of putting humor into the car guys bookshelf instead of just numbers like torque, HP (or is it brake HP, what the hell is the difference?) and quarter mile times. If you want to feel like you are listening to a friend tell stories about funny things that have happened involving cars, trucks, weird vehicles and a socially awkward man child, buy this book.
Yes I was also lured into this sale by the fact that it cost less that an elephant stapler. Also as most internet writers rarely make money and Gawker media that owns Jalopnik is going bankrupt I think Doug needs all the money he can get right now!
Hey, it costs less than an elephant stapler. I'm sold.
